HOW WE GOT HERE
Whether you're from Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, Georgia or the Carolinas, we all agree that there's nothing more mouthwatering than the aroma of sweet, smoked BBQ.
For us Southerners, BBQ tastes like home. It’s a Southern tradition that has brought friends & family together around the pit to have a good time and eat amazing food for generations.
Salty Joe’s is a new Southern BBQ tradition, est. 2017. Our dishes are made with the best local ingredients and house-smoked meats. We want our guests to experience all the sweet and savory flavors of BBQ while enjoying the convenience of restaurant dining. We fire up the pit in the early mornin’ and get to work, cooking our meats low and slow all day, so you don’t have to.
Our restaurant began as a simple storage warehouse, nothin’ fancy, but the owners saw its potential. They started to dream up ideas for a food truck location, but the creative wheels didn’t stop turnin’ there and Salty Joe’s gradually evolved into what you folks see & experience here today.
If these walls could talk, they’d tell stories of family, friendship, and some of our local history. You may have noticed the “Tina’s Restaurant” sign when you walked in that once hung outside the doors of a restaurant in Mexico owned by the mother of one of the founders, or maybe you recognized some of the many donated antiques from Hammond locals that have been restored and re-purposed to create our unique atmosphere.
